Roy
L. Phillips, CIC, CISR, AAI, CPIAL. Phillips served as
President of the Clear Lake branch of the Agency and then as
the President of King-Phillips from 1983 until 1995. At that
time, he assumed the responsibilities of the growing
consulting firm, and has been retained as an expert witness in
over 200 legal proceedings in the past 15 years. He
specializes in evaluation of insurance agencies, many times
acting as a Special Master or Sole Arbitrator for the Court.
In addition, he is retained by both plaintiff and defense
attorneys as an expert witness in cases requiring
interpretation of insurance coverages, standards of care, and
insurance regulations. Roy served as an Adjunct Professor of
Insurance at the University of Houston from 1965 until 1976,
has taught commercial and personal insurance courses
throughout the United States and continues today to teach E&O
Prevention and Ethics & Insurance Regulations. Roy is active
in the Agency in providing training and assisting in reviewing
active and prospective insurance accounts. He is a member of
the Insurance and the Business Sections of the State Bar of
Texas, as well as other professional associations.
Phillips is a licensed Agent and
holds the Risk Manager license. For the first 16 years
of his career, Roy served as an Underwriter, Claims Adjustor,
Branch Manager and Vice President of a Regional Company. He
joined his long-time friend, Dan King, in 1981, and together
they created the first “Cluster” in the Texas market.
Roy served
on active duty with the 77th Special Forces, the
original Green Berets, and for the remainder of his 28 years
of service he trained many of those units. Roy retired from
the Army in
1986, having been promoted to Colonel in 1979.
